What to Expect

Reservations

An escape to The 1861 Inn will be an experience far more unique that any typical hotel stay. It will take you just moments to unwind in your spacious guestroom before settling in for a relaxing visit.

When you complete your secure reservation, it is instantly booked on our calendar. Rest assured, all your personal information is safe.

Confirmation

Shortly after completing your reservation process you will receive a confirmation email from our booking service. It should cover all the important details of your stay.

If you do not receive a confirmation email within 24 hours please contact us at info@1861inn.com so that we can confirm the accuracy of your email information.

Payment

A deposit of one night’s stay, plus tax, is required to secure your reservation. The Inn removes your room from the availability calendar and the charge will be processed to the credit card on file the day your reservation is made. Balance due for your stay will be processed at check-out.

 

Check in/Check out

Check in is typically between 3-7pm. The Innkeepers look forward to personally greeting you and making you comfortable after your travels. Please contact us if you require a late check in. If you will be delayed by more than 60-minutes of the designated time of arrival on your reservation form, please give us a call at 513.735.2466.  

 Check out is at 11 am. 


Parking

The inn has ample parking for all guests, including boat and horse trailers. The 1861 Inn is only minutes from East Fork State Park where you can enjoy boating, swimming and twenty-five miles of riding trails, and several Equestrian venues.

 

Breakfast Guests 

If an overnight guest would like to invite a guest for breakfast, it can be accommodated in most cases. Please make arrangements with the innkeepers and the charge will be added to your bill.

 

Minimum Stay Requirements 

Two-night minimum stays may be required during special event or holiday periods. Our reservation system will not allow a one-night booking on a date with a minimum stay requirement.

Some examples of special event/holiday periods are:

  • East Fork Regattas
  • Memorial & Labor Day weekends
  • Cincinnati Music Festival
     

Amenities

 Your stay at The Inn will include the following complimentary services:

  • Fresh baked sweets daily
  • Signature home cooked breakfast
  • Free high-speed wireless Internet
  • Flat screen TVs
  • Welcome beverages upon arrival
  • Complimentary soda, water and snacks
  • Early-riser beverage service available
  • Board games and cards
  • Iron and ironing board available – forgotten personal items if needed

Innkeepers reside on premises and are always anxious to answer any questions about the area.

 

Swimming Pool and Spa

The Inn has a beautiful 20’x40’ swimming pool and hot tub area for the exclusive use of our guests. The pool has a depth of 3-5.5 feet. Weather permitting, it is typically available for use from May 15th –  September 15th. There is no lifeguard on duty and parents must be at the pool at all times when children are in the pool deck area. The pool is open from 8am to 10 pm.

 

The Inn Property

The Inn occupies 7.5 acres. In addition to the porches and pool deck areas available for relaxing, we encourage guests to stroll the property and view the original outbuildings of The Penn Estate. Still maintained are the ice house, two-hole outhouse and bank barn which date back to the 1860’s. The Guest Cottage once served the family as the smoke house. 

Our historic home is rich in period architectural features. The two story, Italianate style home, circa-1861, features twelve-foot ceilings throughout most of The Inn. Original decorative molding and a ceiling medallion are featured in the living room and a dramatic cove ceiling adorns the library. Red oak or heart of pine floors can be found throughout. Cozy fireplaces enhance common areas and are found in the Riverview guest room and The Guest Cottage. You will be welcomed by the original handcrafted winding staircase and all window glass and bricks were crafted on the property.

Do you offer any discounts? 

In addition to the specials offered on the SPECIALS page we offer all return guests, always, $10.00 off/night on a two night or more stay.

 

Are The Inn prices competitive? 

We guarantee the lowest prices. We will beat whatever price you find on an OTA (online travel agent, i.e. Expedia, Hotels.com, etc.) Booking directly with us guarantees you an exceptional travel experience from reservation process to check out! 

 

Do you host special events?

We do host weddings, showers, birthday parties and business meetings of limited size. Please call and discuss your event plans with the Innkeepers and we will do everything possible to accommodate them.  

 

 Are dogs welcome at The Inn? 

Our poolside Guest Cottage allows well-socialized dogs to bring their humans for a getaway. The cottage provides easy access to both exercise and relief. Marley, the resident Springer spaniel looks forward to meeting all visitors. A $30/night dog fee will be added to your bill at checkout. Please notify the Innkeepers that you are traveling with your pet at booking.

 

 Are children welcome at The Inn?

Children 10 and older are welcome with a reservation. Infants are also welcome to stay in The Guest Cottage. The Guest Cottage can only accommodate one child of any age.  Roll away beds are not available.

 


Meet the Innkeepers

Carole and Tom Cottrill have been Innkeepers for 8+ years. Providing first-class hospitality is a second career for both.  They formerly worked in corporate roles, Tom in Supply Chain Management and Carole in marketing and consumer affairs.

Carole and Tom are quick to highlight their life as Innkeepers.  “We have thoroughly enjoyed hosting the hundreds of travelers we have shared our historic home with. They have hailed from all over the United States, Canada, Europe and New Zealand. The biggest reward has been all of our repeat-guests who we now readily call our friends.”

Both are avid readers, tennis and bridge players (always ready to pick-up a game of either activity) and enjoy kayaking on local lakes. Tom is an outstanding vocalist and always ready for a duet! Marley, the resident English Springer Spaniel, is The Inn’s greatest ambassador and is always excited to greet new guests.

 


Policies

General Information and Cancellations

The 1861 Inn offers the charm of a family-run business with the finest quality service levels. Attention to detail and a high level of service has rewarded The Inn with top ratings on Bed and Breakfast.com, Google and TripAdvisor.

Reservations:

A deposit of one night’s stay, plus tax, is required to secure your reservation. The payment is auto-billed the day you book your stay. The balance due for your stay and any special services will be processed at check out.


Occupancy:

Room rates are for single or double occupancy and include our scrumptious hot breakfast. A maximum of 3 people per guest is room is allowed. Each additional adult is $30/night; each child 10 and above $20/night. Roll away beds are not available.

Local and state taxes apply to all room rates.

Cancellations:

A 14-day cancellation prior to your stay is subject to a $25.00 handling fee.  If a cancellation is made in less than 14 days prior to your reservation, we will hold your deposit for a future stay within 3 months of cancellation. A $25 handling fee will also apply. Same day cancellations or a no-show will forfeit 100% of deposit.

We cannot make exception to these policies. As a small business, cancellations have a serious impact on the fine services you will expect to receive at The Inn.

Smoking:

The Inn is a non-smoking residence. For the comfort of guests and Innkeepers smoking is not permitted on the porches and is restricted to and outdoor, first floor designated area.

Visitors:

To provide the maximum security and privacy for our guests, all of the Inn’s common areas are dedicated solely to their comfort and relaxation. We ask that if you wish to invite a family member or friend onto the premises that you discuss it first with The Innkeepers.
